Un modello che rispecchia fedelmente la
tipologia dei fucili che, fino ai primi anni
dell’Ottocento, venivano utilizzati dalle
più note compagnie di commercio (Nor-
thwest Co., Hudson’s Bay Co., American
Fur Co.) per gli scambi con i nativi ame-
ricani e i cacciatori bianchi. Questi fucili
riproponevano le classiche linee dei mo-
schetti della vecchia Europa e venivano
prodotti sia da aziende europee sia dai
più noti fabbricanti americani del tem-
po, come per esempio, Leman, Henry,
Tryon e Deringer.
Il fregio a forma di serpente arricchito
da incisioni, la bacchetta di caricamento
in legno e il guardamano molto ampio
erano caratteristiche tipiche di queste
armi. Realizzato con calcio in noce e
canna ad anima liscia colore damasco,
può essere impiegato nel tiro al piattello
nella specialità Manton R, oppure nella
caccia con caricamento sia a pallini sia a
palla.
Nell’allestimento in kit sono comprese
le borchie metalliche per creare dei fregi
riferiti, per esempio, alla cultura dei
Sioux Lakota. L’ornamento più frequen-
te era quello di un cerchio con una croce
all’interno per indicare la “Ruota di
Medicina” o “Sacro Cerchio della Vita”
(Cangleska Wakan). Esso rappresenta
l’armonia dell’universo, con la forma
circolare dei corpi e il loro movimento;
la croce, invece, l’unione delle quattro
direzioni che supportano la struttura del
creato e la mantengono stabile. Il nume-
ro quattro può essere riferito anche alle
stagioni, alle fasi della giornata, della
esistenza dell’uomo, alle parti di una
pianta, alle razze umane.

A model faithfully reflecting the type of
rifles that since the late 1700s were used
by the most well known trading
companies (Northwest Co., Hudson’s
Bay Co., American Fur Co.) for the
trades with the American Indians and
the white hunters.
These guns showing the classical lines
of the old European muskets produced
both by European manufacturers and
by the most well known American
manufacturers, such as Leman, Henry,
Tryon and Deringer.
The snake shape decoration is enriched
by engravings. The wood ramrod and
the large trigger guard were typical
features of these guns. Made with
walnut stock and rust brown colour
barrel can compete in the clay pigeon
target class in the Manton R discipline,
or it can be used for general hunting,
loading either shot or a round ball. The
kit version is supplied with metallic
nails to create drawings referred, for
instance to the Sioux Lakota’ s culture.
The more frequent ornament was a
circle with inside one cross to feature
the “Medicine Wheel” or “The Sacre Life
Circle” (Cangleska Wakan). It
represents the harmony of the universe
with the corps circular shape and their
movement; the cross represents the
unified four directions that support the
creation structure, keeping it steady.
The number four can refer to the
Seasons, to the day’ s phases of the
man’s existence, the parts of a tree, or
the human races.
