Nel 1792 l’Austria si trovò coinvolta
nelle Guerre della Rivoluzione e dell’Im-
pero; il Ministero della Guerra di Vienna
dovette fronteggiare il nuovo modo di
combattere delle armate della Rivolu-
zione basato sulla velocità di sposta-
mento e su nuove tattiche di fanteria. Si
pensava che parte del merito delle vitto-
rie dei francesi fosse da attribuire al loro
nuovo fucile modello 1777 e così, alla fi-
ne della Prima Campagna d’Italia, fu
costituita una Commissione incaricata
di adottare nuove armi per l’esercito
austriaco. Il 26 luglio 1798 nasce il nuo-
vo modello che, pur ispirato a quello
francese, presenta altre caratteristiche
tipicamente austriache, come il volumi-
noso bocchino, la bacchetta con calcato-
io di nuovo profilo e la lunga baionetta a
quattro fili. Il fucile mod. 1798 è un’ar-
ma ben costruita, molto robusta e per
alcuni versi superiore al suo progenitore
francese. Il calcio è in noce e le parti
metalliche in acciaio, eccezion fatta per
le fascette, il guardamano e lo scodellino
che sono in ottone.

On 1792 Austria was involved in the
Wars of Revolution and of the Empire;
the War Ministry in Vienna had to face
a newway to fight the Revolution corps,
based on the need to quickly move the
troops and on new infantry tactics. The
belief was that the reason for the French
victories was due to their Model 1777
musket, so at the end of the First Italian
Campaign, a commission was charged
to adopt new guns for the Austrian
army. On the 26
th
of July 1798 came the
new model, that even if inspired by the
French model, has other typical
Austrian features, like the voluminous
front band, the ramrod with a new
profile and the long bayonet with four
edges. The musket Model 1798 is a well
made gun, very strong and for some
points it is better than its French
progenitor. The stock is made of
walnut, steel metal furniture, except
the bands, the trigger guard and the
pan that are made of brass.

Trae le sue origini dal noto 1777 con
alcune varianti del tutto teutoniche.
Originariamente prodotto in Potsdam,
la nostra riproduzione ripresenta tutte
le caratteristiche dell’originale. La canna
è satinata e l’acciarino, che ricorda il
1777, è marcato
Potsdam
; le altre parti
sono in ottone. Il calcio è in noce lucidato
a olio.

Takes its origins from the famous 1777
musket, differing from this only in some
minor details. This musket faithfully
reproduces the original model made in
Potsdam. The barrel is of polished steel
and all metal parts are of brass. The
walnut stock is oil finished. The polished
steel lock, recalls the 1777 model, and is
inscribed “Potsdam”.
