Classica pistola a canne giustapposte
che ripropone lo stile delle armi di
scuola anglosassone utilizzate nella
seconda metà dell’Ottocento per la
caccia nei lontani territori coloniali.
Durante il primo periodo del governo
colonialista britannico in India le pistole
howdah, per la loro potenza e affidabilità,
erano le preferite dagli ufficiali
dell’esercito inglese distaccati negli
sconfinati avamposti dell’Impero, ma il
principale impiego era nella caccia alle
prede selvatiche o particolarmente
pericolose.
Il termine howdah si riferisce alla
portantina, o piattaforma, installata sul
dorso dell’elefante.
Gli acciarini sono abbelliti da incisioni
con soggetti di animali selvatici immersi
nel loro habitat naturale, e finiti color
tartaruga. Il calcio, in noce, presenta
una impugnatura su cui sono stati
realizzati due pannelli zigrinati per
consentire una presa salda, confortevole
ed equilibrata grazie anche alla coccia
che funge da contrappeso.
In sintonia con la consolidata tradizione
inglese, l’arma può essere completata da
un cofanetto in legno corredato da
accessori.

reproducing the Anglo-Saxon guns’
style used for the hunt in the second half
of the Eighteen hundreds in the far
colonial territories and India.
During the first period of the British
colonial government in India, the
Howdah pistols for their power and
reliability were preferred by the officers
of the English army in the far away
outposts of the wide empire, but the
main use was at close range to stop
dangerous wild animals such as the
tiger which were known to leap upon
the Howdah atop the elephants back.
The Howdah name is the palanquin
mounted on the elephant. The locks are
embellished with engraving featuring
wild animals in the their natural
habitat, case hardened colour finish.
The walnut stock has two checkered
sections to grant a firm, comfortable
and stable grip, thanks to the
counterweight butt plate. Similar with
cased guns of the English tradition, the
gun is also offered in a mahogany case
with accessories.
