Al termine della Guerra Civile (1865), il
dipartimento della guerra dovette sosti-
tuire gli eccellenti moschetti ad avanca-
rica con armi a cartuccia metallica. Tra il
1865 e il 1866 apparve la prima trasfor-
mazione di uno Springfield ad avancari-
ca realizzata da Allin e nel 1868 nacque
il primo “Rifle Trapdoor”, ulteriormente
modificato nel 1870; tre anni dopo un
nuovo fucile in calibro .45-70 diede la
risposta a tutte le esigenze.
Nei vent’anni che seguirono furono pro-
dotte cospicue quantità dello Springfield
Trapdoor, fra le quali numerose versioni
a canna liscia, per cadetti, per il tiro di
precisione e circa cinquecento destinate
agli Ufficiali. Lo Springfield Trapdoor
tipica arma dei soldati americani, tra i
quali il generale Custer, era in dotazione
alle truppe anche durante la guerra ispa-
no-americana (1898-1899).
La Davide Pedersoli ha il piacere di ri-
proporre i tre modelli più significativi: il
fucile da Fanteria (S.905), la carabina
da Cavalleria (S.900) e il fucile da
Ufficiale (S.910), dotato di stecher, e
completato da tacca di mira e diottra
regolabile in verticale e orizzontale. Tut-
ti i modelli sono perfettamente fedeli
agli originali e rappresentano un intrec-
cio di tradizione armiera, arte e alta
tecnologia. Le versioni Deluxe (L.) ed
Extra Deluxe (LL.) sono caratterizzate
da ricche incisioni. Nella versione Extra
Deluxe, impreziosita da rimessi in oro
sulla cartella, l’incisione è eseguita anche
sulla fascetta di tenuta canna.

At the end of the Civil War (1865), the war
department had to replace the excellent
muzzle loading muskets with metallic
cartridge rifles. Between 1865 and 1866
appeared the first transformation of a
muzzle loading Springfieldmusket made
by Allin and in 1868 the first “Trapdoor
Rifle” was built, further modified in
1870; three years later a new rifle in the
.45-70 caliber answered to all the
exigencies. During the following 20
years quite a big number of Springfield
Trapdoorrifleshavebeenmanufactured,
among them also many versions with
smooth barrel for cadets, for the target
shooting and destined to the Officers.
The Springfield Trapdoor rifle is a
typical gun of the American soldiers,
including General Custer. It equipped
the troops also during the Spanish-
American War (1898-1899).

able to offer flawless reproductions of
the three most significant models: the
U.S. Army Rifle (S.905), the U.S. Cavalry
Carbine (S.900) and the Officer’s Rifle
(S.910), this last equipped with a single
set trigger, rear sight and Creedmoor
sight adjustable in elevation and
windage. All of these follow the
originals perfectly and blend traditional
gunsmith’s handcraft arts to state of the
art technology. The Deluxe (L) and Extra
Deluxe (LL) versions are characterized
by rich engravings. The Extra Deluxe
version, more precious for the gold
inlays on the frame, the engraving is
made also on the stock’s bands.
